My fiance is a network engineer, with SQL, VBA, JAVA skills, trying to gain entry in the IT/Finance field. Seems no one will hire him without any finance experience. How should he go about this? He's willing to start at a junior level for the right position. Thanks!

He needs to answer the following first.

From the employer's point of view they will rate the following.

1) Why does he want to go into finance? Is it because he did not excel in IT?

2) Why should I hire him? What has he got to offer?
- Apparently he has no financial experience, even if he were to lower his expectations, he will not get in. The reason is simple.

a) I have fresh young graduates who are enthusiastic and just join the work force, I will get more better performance from them. Why do I want to hire someone with no financial experience and take a risk.

b) As you said he is your fiance, I am suspecting that he might be in the age range of 28-35 years old. Remember, a person's peak is at the age of 35-38 years old. Once you're 38 and you're not into senior management, chances are you stand a good chance of getting retrenched.

c) Tom Peters once said this interesting rule. 21+21 = 42 rule. What it means is that once you're 42 years old, any company can hire two 21 year olds and perform your job faster, better.

I am not trying to sell anything here but if he were to drop me an email with his resume, I might be able to give him some free advice. My contact details are on the web if you need them.
