I had EXACTLY the same problem.my broadband would disconnect for hours, I spend hours on the phone to bt (India) they were damn hopeless. I brought 3 routers and loads of connectors I replaced EVERYTHING and they said that there was an error on the line. you name it I did it, does your adsl light keep flashing?? Right.. now for your answer to your problem that took me 8 weeks to sort out..SOMEONE at BT upgraded my broadband and the speed of the broadband was faster than I original asked (they said I asked for it to be upgraded) for was coming down the line, because it was too quick it would shut down (disconnect)..BT have to programme the speed..phone BT broadband and ask them to check that no-one has upgraded your speed of your broadband and ask if is compatible with the speed you have already got..they can do this on the phone. they should have to get someone from another dept to phone you, if they don't ask you should ask for the technical dept to phone, I had SO many screaming matches down to phone because of this same problem, the kids homework help also came to a stop, so did bidding on anything on ebay, they said they couldn't find the problem..that's BT for you..good luck and remember BT are ALWAYS right (that's what they say)

I had the same problem for approximately 7 weeks, and I rang every helpline going, and always got told the same, change your filters, BUY a new modem etc. Which stupidly? I did. I eventually contacted my local papers help desk and they began investigating my complaint, eventually an engneer turned up. He said that I needed to put a filter on my main phone line which was downstairs and also on my extention upstairs (where the computer is situated). I did this and this restored my problem. But I was so puzzled as I had never had a filter on my main phone line. My problem to begin with was when I was connected to someone on the phone, my internet was connected, but when I hung up the phone my internet dropped out. Not certain if this maybe something to do with why yours isnt functioning as it should. Be persistant and don't wait for them to test lines and such like, as until an engineer comes out how can they know exactly what the problem is. My internet is now fixed and I have had £110 compensation.
Hope this helps.
Good luck!

Yes. Broadband can be interfered with by many electrical products.
I lost broadband for 5 weeks and it turned out someone in the village had installed wireless CCTV. BT had to use thier statutory powers to get them to remove it. It was CE marked.
If your voice sounds all right on the line then it is likely to be radio wave interferance, similar to the CCTV issues. Radio waves can also be caused by generators, poor house wiring, cross talk to other lines, electric cables, motors etc.
BT eill work thier way down the line form the exchange, checking for interfence on each leg of the journey. They caheck the lines and have RF receivers with omni directional arials to pinpoint the interferance. BT do not have many of these specialists.
Unfortunately, RF isolation is a bit of a black art.

I had that problem when we moved house and getting connected here with BT. Its not you its them complain about it. I had no phoneline for 2 weeks not long back!!! There was a problem at the exchange...their words.
Since then its been fine but is does disconnect now and then.
Ive been told that BT do not have enough lines or something.
