That sounds fair enough, senoir. My work does that too - never understood why, on your birthday, you have to fork out money to buy other people cake!

I think asking for money is being unreasonable. You don't have to eat the cake if you don't want to and you shouldn't insist on getting money instead. You could mention to the person that you're trying to lose weight and won't be having any cake and if it's someone you know well you could maybe subtly hint that a fruit would be nice, but don't ask them for money, that's flat out rude.

No you can't just blatantly ask for money.

But you could try selling slices of cake for lets say $2.00 a piece. I'm telling you this will work because people can't resist birthday cake.

Maybe you could get 2 cakes and really make a killing on the profits!!

I think that if they're not willing to part with the cash, they should get you something instead of cake. It's only fair.

It's the reverse here, you know. Your office mates buy you a cake for your birthday. Or, if you're really nice, they take you out to lunch.

I actually find that reasoning to be rather pathetic. We collect money at my work for all birthdays and get cake, corn chips and dips and celebrate. We do it out of kindness, if someone doesnt want to celebrate their birthday and I have worked with people like that due to religion or them just not wanting to celebrate.we just dont do it... I would find it rather selfish and degrading to have them then actually ask for the money.

I think that's fair enough. I've always pulled a sicky on my birthday but this year I'm thinking of making up a big bowl of salad and everyone can just dip in.
With plenty of Salad Cream and crusty bits *wink*.

lol yes i'd say that's slightly cheeky! but then again they might think its admirable that you're trying to lose weight and being strong with the cakes there, tell them its so you can buy an apple and join in the fun! let me know how it goes!

i think it is pretty fair enough. instead of spending money on the cake, might as well save it up, and at the same time lose weight.

if they dont give you the money, when you do that pulling the hair, for every year old they are, make sure you pull it real hard.
