they dont, there are far too many of these type childrens programmes that just make no sense and are really bad for childrens speech, bill and ben, the hoobs, teletubbies for example, i think it is a bit irresponsible of tv companys to aim these sorts of programmes at younger children as it will just confuse them and i suppose it could delay their speech. my 3 yr old son has been a great talker since about 1 and a half but my 2yr old nephew who is always watching these sorts of shows is only just starting to talk properly now and he is 3 in january, not saying it is just the shows but they wont be helping!

I didnt realise they were supposed to be teaching that.
Its more of a toddler show, lots of repetition etc but it doesnt base on teaching to speak, just learning about other things through repetition.

teletubbies are a disaster for our children. they have no purpose and no story line. my child just wanders of and ignores them and the demon in the sun scares the life out of me.
bring on the tweenies and the hoobs at least they speak our langauge.

I should assume it helps children make the first noises that make up sounds.
"Again, again!", "Toast", "Custard", are all words. "Tinkywinky, LaLa, Dipsy and Po" are easy syllables that children can learn to base other words off of.

They are no different to the cooing / babbling noises that most parents seem to make towards their offspring either.
The flower pot men never hurt us, or did they?
