depends where you live in the North West, personally Id agree the Manchester Museum of Transport & Industry is a great starting point.
not to sure how much car related exhibts there are, but I seem to rememebr it appealled to the small boy in most Men. However it may not suit an out and out petrolhead.
PS I know some people think the south IS the UK, but Beaulieu is on the south coast ffs!

You ask for museums in the North West, so somebody suggests Beaulieu - or am I seeing things? Stick for "The Cars, The Stars" in Keswick, although photography is banned......

The Space and Transport Museum in Manchester, at Castlefields, has cars, bikes, airoplanes, motorcycles, and rockets.

Go to Beaulieu, i did this as a trip for my BF's birthday and he loved it! (Did an overnight stay nearby too :-)
