Good grief - I can't believe how helpful you all are. I didn't know this site could actually be so useful - maybe it depends on what you post but this is really helpful to me. I haven't lit up yet, trying to distract myself.

I've stopped for over a year. sometimes when people light up, it makes me want to throw up yet there are other times that I deliberately inhale their 2nd hand smoke but I definitely know that I won't start up again- there are 2 many bad points to it. I think it stays with you forever - you are an ex-smoker as opposed to a non-smoker. I do feel the benefits - more money, better health and freedom from that thought 'when can I sneak a puff' and my hangovers ain't half as bad. Don't start again- you'll truly regret it. Stick something else in your mouth- just not a smoke.

It has been nearly 4 years since I have had a cigarette. I feel good and I could smoke one a yard long. I don't sit around wanting one or anything like that, but the mentioning of smoking will start a yearning for a puff or two. I started at the age of 12 and am 64 now.

I found that quitting is easy when you make up your mind that's what you want to do. There's no use trying until you do.

Two years ago, but like you I could still murder a ciggy. I have even found myself inhaling deeply when I come out of a supermarket where all these people are lighting up. Must admit I do feel better, and good for you, don't give in, you will only feel guilty.

I gave up two years past in July, but i found it quite easy coz I was in early stages of pregnancy and it made me feel sick so I thought it was the perfect time to stop. I've still been tempted now and then but I always remember that I have no nicotine in my system, so how can my body crave it? The cravings shouldn't last that long so just try and let them pass. With every carving that passes you should feel even more proud of yourself. The habit is just as hard to break as the craving.

I gave up smoking 12yrs ago but I will have the odd *** when I'm stressed . or out with a mate. It works out that it takes 25yrs for the craving to really go away so any time with in 25yrs you can pick up a cig .

Six years ago. The coughing took a year to stop. It's all bollox about getting your taste back (or perhaps I never lost mine!) and now I'm on Beclazone and Ventolin. Give up smoking - I sometimes wonder.......!!!!!!!

I have never smoked, congratulations on giving up, try hard to focus on something lse, you have come so far it would be such a shame to start up again, your health has improved, you have prolonged your life, you are better off, you deserve to buy yourself a treat. Good luck, hang in there.
