Answer: 224

So 96 marbles equal 3/5 (60%) of the amount he had prior to giving marbles to his sister. Each fifth was therefore worth 32 marbles. So his total before giving marbles to his sister was 160 marbles.

The 160 marbles was 5/7 of the original total. Each 1/7 was worth 32. So the grand total was 224.

let total no. of marbles he has be x
then his mother has 2/7 of x
and his sister has 2/5 of (5x/7)
=2x/7
he left with 96 marbles
that means
x= 2x/7 +2x/7 +96
x- 4x/7=96
3x= 96*7
x= 32*7
x= 224

(2/5)*((2/7)X)=96

(2/5)*(2X/7)=96
4X/35=96
4x=96*35
x=(96*35)/4
x=24*35
x=840
