Well you can use freecycle.org it is a sharing community were every thing is free. It's for people that either have some or want some thing. Everything that you post must be for free but you have to find a way to get it. They have them all over the world so they probably already have one in your town. Good luck because I live in worcester, MASS and I am always seeing people giving away books for free

I am an avid book collector in the United States. I love on-line book swapping websites. I have read good things about http://readitswapit.co.uk/TheLibrary.aspx

Another website that I know of is http://bookhopper.co.uk/ . I am sure that there are more out there, just waiting to be discovered.

When registering for book swapping sites, you will be asked to post books that you no longer want or need. For each book you mail you receive a credit for a new book.

In my experience, the shipper pays the postage.

I have rarely received a book that was in poor condition. Online book swapping is economical and eco-friendly. It is a lot of fun, too.

I hope you find this helpful.

Wishing you a wonderful day,

S.D.

Go to your local Oxfam shops and other charity shops. The books are really cheap, and the specialist Oxfam bookshops have a wide variety of low priced books on all sorts of topics which people have handed in because they had no further use for them or they needed the space. You can also try Amazon or Ebay if you have specific titles in mind. Sometimes the books cost a few pence and you only pay for postage.

Lots of times if you go to yard sales late in the afternoon when people are tired and do not want to clean up, they will give you used books. Also, the Goodwill is a good place to get really cheap books but they are not free. You might try just asking people if they have any books they want to get rid of. I have given away books lots of times. Good luck.

What exactly is a used book? It implies that when people read the book they somehow take something out of it which cannot be replaced. Used car, used dishwasher, used computer - OK but a used book? Try flea markets, second-hand book stalls. I have never considered any of my books as 'used', and I have difficulty parting with them.

Look for local church rummages in your area, especially large ones. They usually have tons of books for a quarter each, or less. I went to a big rummage last year and came back with a big bag of books. Try yard sales and flea markets, too. I don't know how to get people to send you books for free, though, sorry. Good luck : )

Join bookcrossing and monitor where the books are being left and go get them - if you dont like them, pass them on in the hope someone else might.

Not really in the spirit of book-crossing, but a way for you to get your hands on free books!

I guess prospective senders would be put off by the high cost of postage. You could offer to pay, but I think you would find it cheaper to go to a jumble sale or a charity shop.

That will be hard to do since the postage will cost the sender
