Gordon Brown is now running the government anyway - if that's who Labour wants should Blair just get out of the way ?

Yes, he should just stand down straight away.

It's doing absolutely no good whatsoever for the country having him clinging on in there, with MPs spending more time speculating on when he's going to go, rather than debating decent policy. Whether you like Blair or hate Blair, there really is nothing to be gained by him not standing down now.

As for Gordon Brown - it's pretty much inevitable, so let him have a crack at it for a year. Then call a general election. My bet is it'll be a hung parliament, which might actually be the best option for the country all round...
