They didn't. It was all CG graphics and hypotheses. Duh. They said twenty mins into it that they didn't find anything like what they were showing. They were just showing what it MIGHT be like if they did. Do you take the shows about alien planets and the life on them this seriously?
In any case, who's to say that Dragons weren't real at one point and that we either can't see them anymore or that they all left the Earth for parts unknown? Take a look at most societies around the world, ancient and modern, and you'll see that dragons of some kind were UNIVERSAL in almost all of them! In a time LONG before internet, telephones, telegraps, or even paper, dragons somehow spread around the world, to isolated cultrues. Ponder that for a while.

They didn't - you just misunderstood what you were seeing.
The komodo dragon is the only "real" dragon that exists. Others may have, but we cannot be sure if they did or did not - all the evidence so far suggests they did not, but who knows, they could dig up a dragon fossil at any moment... (even if we all doubt they will)...
When watching TV you mustn't just turn your brain off - the opposite is true in fact, you should be more alert than ever and questioning EVERYTHING.

It was merely a show on entertainment... it made a "what if" scenario. The concept of dragons is universal, and so they made a "documentary" to show what it would have been like if they were indeed real, and how people would go about learning about them.
It's akin to the "Walking with Dinosaurs" and "The Future Is Wild" series. All merely "what if" scenarios put forward for entertainment purposes.

They showed it cause they found evidence(the last part when they showed the fossil)that dragons are real,and to show what the world was like when they lived.And what they meant by saying "a fantasy made real" was that people thought dragons are just a fantasy,but they found evidence to show that they were real.
