Oscars are very territorial fish and will fight over 'their' part of the tank or 'their' rocks, 'their' slate or 'their' hiding places.

Try taking everything out of the tank and completely rearranging it, maybe adding some different rocks or taking some away. This will need doing fairly regularly to stop them from getting territorial again once they're used to the new arrangement, perhaps every time you do a water change?

Hope this helps, good luck!

When you purchase two Oscars, the chances are against you in them getting along once they grow up. They will fight if they're the same sex and even if they are male and female this doesn't mean they will become a breeding pair.

If you really want a pair, you would need to purchase a few of them (5-6) and grow them out until a pair forms out of them, told by the way they try to take over the tank together and go after the rest of them. Remove the remainders and the result is a compatible pair that will still liplock and fight on occasion, but rarely to the point of injury.

At this point you really have two options - get rid of one and keep just one, or start over and achieve a pair from a group. In a four foot tank I'd stick to just one, or go with a smaller species of fish.

Try taking out the divider and rearrange the floor of the tank with a bit of a water change...take out the slate for a bit and leave them without the light for a day or so...it worked when I had a male/female. Unfortunately one died before they got to the egg stage but exhibited much the same behaviours. Goodluck if you give it a go

how big is your tank when a tank is too small or if they are over crowded an Oscar will become aggressive. Oscars like to re-arriange things around in there tank so thats why they were moving the rocks

Perhaps they went to pre-marital counseling and decided they were a bad match and are just wishing one would be moved from the neighborhood... sorry... here is my real answer....

Oscar fish are mean. Just mean. I know this is hard for Oscar owners to admit or believe...but once they get a "taste" for death they try to KILL everything.... including each other.

a lot like humans really.
sigh.

is the tank large enough and well planted enough? Are you sure that they are fighting and not mating? Are you sure you have a true pair and not two of the same sex?

Typical Oscar behaviour, they're very aggressive and there's not a lot you can do about it.

Typical married behavior, especially when the kids come.
