Sounds to me like you are trying to learn how to spam. Can you honestly say that you you KNOW all the people who are going to be joined up in the same e-mail. If you cannot truthfully answer this question with a resounding YES then you you are a budding spammer, no matter how pure your motives

I'm not sure I see the difference between mail merge and what you are trying to do.
With mail merge you are able to have an email address as one of the fields and a name in one of the others. Instead of printing the result of your mail merge all you need to do is email it instead.

The simplest solution is to do a mail merge using MS Word. Word will allow you to add fields to represent the persons name.

You can use an email bureau, but if you haven't collected your data in line with the provisions of the Data Protection act, I wouldn't.

There are programmes out there (though you usually have to pay a subscription) that would allow you to do just that - that's how you get your Amazon emails and the like seemingly to you only.

What do you need to do this for, and to how many people?

Yes you can if you construct the email as a html file and add code instructing the email when you send it to pick up the recipients first and last names, Im not sure of the actual code you need, get yourself a book on HTML or search on line.

If you use the BCC line for all the addresses then all recipients will receive the e-mail without seeing who else it is addressed to.

You will need to use some email marketing software or website. There are some free ones. Search for group mail freeware.

Try sending as blind copies to everyone. Do a test one first on a few friends to check. Good luck.
