He's got poor control; often gives the ball away - many of which are in dangerous areas; dives into tackles; can't run with the ball; doesn't often cross the ball into the box....the list goes on. Let's face it, he is no Roberto Carlos, Paolo Maldini or even Tony Dorigo, yet he is thought of as one of the best left-backs in the world. Plus he is a self-confessed money-grabber. Is he really as good as people say he is? Just wanted to know everyones thoughts on the matter.

ChlnO - why do you think he's one of the best left backs?

andy4donna - when he started at Arsenal he was good, but in the last 2 years his concentration has gone elsewhere! The fact he is still regarded as one of the best left back doesn't say a lot about other players in that position!

I totally agree with you. I am biased in saying that I dont like the bloke as an arsenal fan! But even when he played for arsenal, he was never amazing. He is money grabbing too. When he started out, he came throught Arsenal Academy, and said that he'd been an arsenal fan all his life. Some fan, the way he treated us was appauling. There are much better left-backs in the world other than Ashley Cole.

Spot on, been saying so for ages only to be berated by the many idiots who populate this section. Only the clueless think England had a genuine chance of winning this WC. I made a lot of money off their defeat by Germany. Rooney a top three player above Iniesta, Xavi, Robben, Sneijder etc. Why? Because he scores chances put on a plate against Hull and Wigan? Don't make me laugh. He has minimal technique. Also, if their nationalities were reversed, Drogba would have been Player of the Year last season.

I totally agree with you there, I am sick and tired of all the media coverage of this overrated donkey. Why the hell Chelsea and Mourinio were willing to risk their reputations to sign this no mark totally baffled me. I watched his pathetic performance last night and thought why oh why, he was injured for the last quarter of the game but his work rate is so bad, you could hardly tell! Get Gareth Barry into his boots now, a much better player and not a primadonna! I have to add though that Ashley Cole's wife is as fit as f@ck!

No, Fat Frank Lampard is the most overrated player in world football. His range of passing makes Ray "The Crab" Wilkins look incisive and when he isn't scoring any goals he brings absolutely nothing to the team...

He shows more commitment than other players in the England team... But he was never a top 10 in the world, so he couldn't be over-rated. Just not rated.

I don`t think he is overrated i just think he is in the wrong team! I mean you all must agree that he was outstanding for Arsenal in his time there, but Chelsea was just the wrong move for him as it has been for a few players! Just look at Scott Parker!!!!

no way. I totally disagree with you. David Beckham is the most overrated footballer by far. Leave Ashley alone.
