No. Not the collective.

It is the struggle of the ego that results in the individual subconsciousness reacting to the various inputs and intensity of its perceptions from the conscious and subconscious planes of existence. The individual subconsciousness may interact with others on a collective basis.

The unconsciousness is immune to tainting, because there is no right or wrong, or even perception, at that level. Are you sure you are in the right category?

Freudians like sex, Behaviorists like electric shocks.

I think Jung was wrong about it. Just as Barbara Amiel once wrote in Confessions that there is no objective reality and Nietzsche insisted that institutions would die out and lose meaning due to lack of public involvement, Jung once claimed there was a collective unconscious. Neither science nor psychology has supported its existence.

Look at Salvador Dali's art. As brilliant as it is, it is a subjective interpretation of reality. That is what makes it interesting. You must look deeper than just an idea or a symbol. The id and ego are important and connected but not to the outside world's collective unconscious.

No one mentioned Bill Hicks?! Haha, and speaking of fevered egos, sounds like we got some here. "I'm smarter than you, look at all the names I can drop." In an irreverent way, I might add. I don't know man, egotism and narcissism are stronger now than ever before, the collective unconscious as a whole does seem to be affected, though social and cultural factors probably play as big a role as any sort of disease on the psyche. A higher power can help, doesn't have to be a spiritual entity.

No, the fevered egos are tainting our collective consciousness though, although we are not conscious of it.
