Internet link us globally, beating the geographical barrier. However, the ease of broadcasting information brings along disasters. Some of the examples are terrorism and fraud. So are we going to expose our children to internet or will that be a next generation of technology to replace internet?

The internet is the most valuable tool that exists in modern society. It powers things such as banks and telephones, and holds information from all around the world. Destroying the internet would have a huge negative effect on the world's economy (putting companies out of business), and much information and knowledge would be lost. I think if the U.S. were to somehow destroy the freedom of the internet, many negative effects would take place. Terrorism and fraud will exist whether the internet is present or not. It's something that will always exist, and unfortunately will never go away. If the frauders didnt have the internet, they will find another way to fraud (e.g. counterfeit checks, stolen credit card numbers). There are dishonest people in our society, and there is no easy way of making them go away.

The internet is a great tool for your children. Just make sure you teach them how to stay safe on the internet. Once your child becomes a teenager, sure they will discover porn sites. Even if the internet didn't exist, they would find another source for pornographic material. Teenagers hormones start surging, and they start craving sex. In a sexually suppressed country such as the United States, many people think of pornography as dangerous material. I believe that looking at porn sure beats going out and getting std's.

Now I think those that participate in child porn should be prosecuted. Unfortunately the Internet is built around a world model, and it would be impossible to get every country to participate in prosecuting these criminals. Even if countries were to install something such as a content filtering system, there will always be a way around it. It's just something we have to live with among the smog, cancer, and viruses that exists in today's society.

Nobody knows the future. We have no choice except to make the most of what's here now. If there is terrorism and fraud on the internet, we have to protect our children and ourselves from that while making the most of the positive things it has to offer. Yahoo Answers is one good thing that's available now. So is information. The internet gives your computer more access to information than all the greatest libraries that the world has ever had.

Instead of TV where a few people decide what everyone will be told, anyone can say anything to those who are looking for what you have to say. It's such a major and important new thing and whatever you make of it is what it becomes for you. And your kids.

Good luck and good judgment to you!

I would say its both also as yes we can get a wealth of information which would sometimes have never been know, yet there is also the threat of viruses and danger to our computers. Internety has helped many buisness grow and get new customesrs which they may never have had before, and on the other hand its put some out of buisness. I guess its a prettyy even balabce between the two.

Depending on whose using it. The internet can be helpful to kids if they are supervised or safe guarded against porn sites. For perverts they need to be prosecuted severely and not able to get out early on good behavior that will lessen the chances of more predators. As for terroism and fraud let the President worry about that.

The thing which dulls the threats posed by the internet is its lack of credibility.

Those of us who use the internet know it is not unimpeachable and should have the smarts to always take everything we see on it with the proverbial "grain of salt."

in order for your children to not be exposed to such things, you can block them out. you can use firewall options and filter what they can and cannot see. you cannot block everything out but in the end you can't keep your children in a bubble either.

if they won't see it on the internet they'll learn it while playing with other children or hear it on the street. the only way to keep your child completely away from bad influence is to isolate him and i don't think you want to do that.

I say it is both. It's a tool because it can be use-full for getting information but it is also a threat because of viruses, hacker and identity thieves
