Likely but they will not go out of business. Bankruptcy allows them to take away a lot from the unions in a legal but unethical manner. Management never want to share the burden.

No chance up to next 3 years. GM is Financially sound company and because it faces stiff competetion and highly gas prices that affect selling of the products. It will never give up. It will try to cut the jobs that should be cut and try to give an options of early retirement or buy outs to its employees. There are plenty of options still have with the company so it can not declare bankruptcy legally.

more likely that they will continue to consolidate, maybe lose another car line or two and finance their recovery with the issuance of some high yield bonds.
