He definately had great screen prescence and most men I know would name him as the actor they most aspire to be like, but off-screen I think he was somewhat less cool. He treated his women badly, expected them to do everything for him and refused to let his wife work (Ali McGraw, a famous Hollywood actress in her own right), needless to say their marriage didn't last long. So i think on screen he epitomised 'cool' but off-screen less so. Its easy to be cool when you're reading from a script is all I would say.

Steve was an actor that could say more with a look than with a 1000 words of script. That's what made him "cool". Granted, you see one McQueen film you've seen them all but they are still fun films to watch (except "War Lover" - which stunk to high heaven)..

Personally I thought his acting was a bit wooden.He did have a presence on screeen though.

He was defininately a cool actor. Sorry you were born too late to watch him. He was great.
