I'm surprised at some of the answers you've received here. You asked for greatest player in franchise history, not alive or dead. Some of the players listed, although are alive and/or current players don't even make the greatest list. While a good argument can be made for the Babe - he was a dominant pitcher in his career with the Sox - his best days were clearly with the Yankees. The House That Ruth Built isn't Fenway Park. I'm going to have to go with all the other intelligent answerers who said Ted Williams. He is the greatest player in Red Sox history and I'm sure that without much trouble you can find autographed merchandise that your friend will appreciate.

Why is it that when disaster strikes you get idiots on here who find loss of life funny.
You should go on to those sick chat-lines where you would be better off with like minded individuals, have you no consideration for the people whose lives were devastated by incidents such as these.
I am going to make sure this is removed, and any further "questions" of yours are closely monitored.

Light aircraft sometimes come to grief, it's got nothing to do with the pilot's occupation. If they were flying over a rural area and thus managed to land in a farmer's field, etc., it wouldn't be the least bit newsworthy.

This was simply an error that tragically cost two lives; luckily only two lives. The fact that he is a professional athlete makes it no more tragic just more publicized.

That’s a bit below the belt, he didn’t mean to do it, he just lost control of the thing, imagine what he would be like with a golf ball.

This was a tragic accident. To criticize him for what he does in the off season less than 24 hours after his death is in poor taste.

Not at all funny, its far too soon after his death to be making crude jokes. Remember, what goes around comes around. I hope you never have to deal with something as sad as this.
