Emo is a subgenre of hardcore punk music. Since its inception, emo has come to describe several independent variations, linked loosely but with common ancestry. As such, use of the term has been the subject of much debate.

A major formative influence on rock was rock and roll, and rockabilly. In the 1960s, as British rock developed, the term "rock music" became popular. With the "British Invasion" this reinvigorated musical style spread back to the United States, and became an international cultural phenomenon with considerable social impact. Rock has evolved into a multitude of highly-varying styles with widespread popularity.

No they are not the same as they both originated from different music scenes

Emo is not the same as rock, in the "typical" sense of the word. Emo is emotionally-charged "punk" rock.

music is about the lyrics and music
emo music is different then rock music, just listen to it
rock lyrics are about partying, life, rock and roll, good or bad experiences. some times rock is about deeper things
emo is about love, hate, sex...and very emotional about it
sometimes emo sounds like crying into a mic to me...

emo is like "cut my wrist and slit my throat" kind of concept. they wear arm socks, stripes, all black. i dont know why i dont think my chemical romance is emo. but to me, from first to last is a good example of an emo band.

rock is like.. audioslave & He is Legend.
it depends on the way they dress and the way they write their lyrics/songs.

it is just a genre which is linked to the type of lyrics they write.

some people mistook it as a TREND!
