Does any1 have any good excuses for getting off work tomorrow? My mate is coming over from England, havent seen her in a year and really want to have a good time tonight, I need a REALLY good excuse as I missed work Tuesday already (due to moving house). Come on ladies and lads tell me what you've used in the past!

The honesty route is best however it is risky as if you try it and your boss says no then taking a sicky is a no no and in fact a CLM (career limiting move).

Do you work near your home or do colleagues go out where you might be going out. If you are seen out and about with your English friend it throws a spanner works again for the Sickness and Diarrhoea excuse from a dodgy prawn sandwich. Always a good one, no one wants to stay on the phone and discuss you having the squits.

As you have just moved house, there is the obvious chance of having contractors in to fix something preferably something essential like the drains as you can't flush the loo's or the water. Something that you can't live without.

You could have a dentist appointment in the morning and go in for the afternoon, so you could get over the hangover from the night before then go in.

Lastly you could go in then have a migraine then have to go home. easiest way to line this one up is to complain of a headache the day before. Migraines can last up to 48 hours.

most of these excuses i have used in the past, these days i am a contractor if i don't want to go in i just call and say i am not coming in being a money grabbing contractor that almost never happens anymore.

Hope this was of some help

I cannot believe that so many people are telling you to lie to your employers!!!
Don't do it, because it will be your bad luck if someone else from your place of work sees you with your friend from England, and reports you to the boss.
It's not going to look good for you is it?
Just tell the boss the truth, and you may be pleasantly surprised, and be granted the day off.

It doesn't pay to lie, as you will only be found out in the end

Being an employer myself the LAST thing I want to hear is something really personal and embarrassing about why one of my guys can not come to work. The worst? The one that gets me saying OK OK don't worry about it before they have a chance to finish spewing the lie?

"I went out to eat last night and had raw oys....I got to go to the bathroom I will call you right back" Then they call back and finish the lie, I ate raw oysters last night and cant stay out of the bathroom....oh no let me call you back. By that time I am rolling my eyes saying, you better take the day off if you re going to have to live in the bathroom. Trust me works every time like a charm.

No employer wants to discuss diarrhea with their employee.

Don't you have any sick days due?
I think food poisoning is a good one.
Most people identify and sympathise with that one, even bosses.
Or tell the truth and ask for a day off (without pay) and offer to catch up with any extra work after-hours or weekends.

Go to work as usual....sit for half an hour and then pretend that you are not feeling well, and leave the office....This way , you were at work at the same time you are back to your mate.........come on now you can sacrifice half an hour to enjoy rest of your day..........try it.

This one works for 2 days:

I have to wait for the contractor.

This will be very plausible for you since you just moved!

Tell them the truth. You are going to get an occurrence either way so why jeopardize your integrity?

You could tell them the truth and that you would really like the day off.

Or you could friegn illness today and phone in tomorrow with your stinking hangover, make sure you sound rough
