Quick half term trip to visit son/brother working at Sunsail. Flying to Athens and then four hours by car seems too expensive and long.

Who said there are no flights to Preveza?
There's an OA flight on Tuesdays (19:50), Fridays (19:45), Saturdays (19:50) and Sundays (19:50, after October 22nd).
However, If you want to go to Preveza on the 25th (Wednesday), you would have to rent a car at Athens Airport (I suggest you SIXT Rent-A-Car) and then drive to Preveza. As far as I know, there is no boat to Preveza.
If you want to avoid this driving fuss, why don't you change your date of arrival?
If you catch a flight arriving before 19:00 hrs at Athens, you can hop in the next plane to Preveza; in this case, hurry and book you tickets, because the airplanes to Preveza are small and it is difficult to find a seat. Round trip Athens - Preveza (AKTION Airport) - Athens is approx. 165€, taxes included (do not know children fares, if applicable).

Aktion Airport is just opposite to Preveza, only 1 km away but you have to take a ferry to cross the sea; you can rent a car at the airport if you wish.

A friend of mine who lives permanently in Preveza told me that he has never heard of a village or location called Vounaki, so make sure that Preveza is the right destination.

If you need further information, I'll be glad to help.

Have a nice trip!
