sperm count is the approximate number of sperms per mellimeter of semen or per ejaculation.
sure you want a microscope to count them, there is a microscopic graded piece of glass that you put the specimen in. the glass has squares (microscopic) in it, you just count the sperms in a single square and then you can calculate per millimeter or per ejaculation.

They count the number of sperm present in a given amount of semen. The higher the better for getting your partner pregnant, though motility (how active the sperm are at swimming) is also important. If they don't swim, they don't work.
