Why do guys break their promises? Why do they feel the need to hurt their best friends, (if they are girls), by not doing something that they promise that they are gonna do? Why are guys so forgetful? Would it kill you to remember your best friend's birthday every now and then? If you had not seen your best friend for three months, and she showed up at your school to visit you, and you saw her in the office, would you go in and say hi, or would you just acknowledge that you saw her and ignore her? What has she ever done for you except offer you advice when you needed it, or helped you with your homework, or cheered for you at a sporting event, or brought your homework and something to cheer you up when your were sick? I do not think that a guys best friend, (that is a girl), deserves to be treated like this. Serious and non-snobby answers only please. Preferably from guys older than 18.

Hi Meighan!

I am 39 and I can honestly say that both guys AND gals can break promises.

It sounds to me that you had a guy best friend break your heart recently -- my heart feels for you. Nobody likes it when that happens.

Meighan, please keep in mind also that men are wired differently than women. Also -- and I am making an assumption that this friend is a teenager or in his early twenties here -- guys tend to mature later than women do, so he may not have learned to be more mature about this.

And, if you'll forgive me for saying this, maybe you should sit him down and tell him what you are telling us -- telling him how hurt you were that he had apparently treated you like this, because he just simply may not know.

Meighan,

First of all .. most guys are not very mature at the under 18 bracket ... they do well to remember thier own Birthdays ..... Granted he should have acknowledged your presence at school .... But how really knows what was in his head at the time.
Assuming he's just not "Evolved" yet ... it takes time and training for young men to gain wisdom .....
Or he thinks he's a player and is just using you ...that would make you a "Fair Weather Friend" owner! ...
Short story ...test the idiot ...if he fails either the evolution test or good friend test ...recycle ... One chicks trash is anothers treasure!

Just be your self .. you seem caring and thoughtful ...if he misses the boat ... a better one will come along ...

Good Luck !!

mmmm speaking for myself most of the promises ive made have been to impress or were sincerely intended to be kept

it does alter the fact that a lot have not been kept --- i think its just not thinking about the consequences and the future

I am learning to only make promises i know i can keep and even then sometimes i dont

males minds are wired differently --- no excuse --- and we are thoughtless in some respects --- we will say or wave hello and expect that to be sufficient

we dont consider that your feelings may be hurt by not appreciating you more

being forgetful is not an excuse --- write dates in a book or diary then you dont forget

and im WAY over 18

Simple! There are 2 types of boys:
1. Super
2. Stupid

Of course, the first one is extinct.

Honestly speaking, sweetheart, guys don't treat their "best friends" (that are girls) like that.
Think carefully about this answer.
