Start your own business. Get the start up capital, and then offer something new. If you want, you can just get a loan and buy a laundromat, those are easy to manage and basically all you do is collect profits, you're your own boss. Once you've paid your loans and you make enough money, you can buy another laundromat, after a few years you've got a few laundromats, perhaps a gas station or two, and you're making a decent amount of cash, that you can use to stabilize and start a new business with a new product of your own idea and design. If the laundromat doesn't work out, it's unlikely that you wouldn't be able to sell it and get your money back.

i would think you would have to lean toward physical science. that is limited by the rules of physics. no matter how much people want to change that - they cant.
BUT. in working closely with anyone/any group, you're going to encounter a couple "whims", even in a lab.
