thing is, cell phones can come in handy: if they're late, GPS sometimes, if something bad happens, i've even seen on the news that a teenaged girl was kidnapped, and her cell phone helped her get rescued...i'd say when they start middle/junior HS and are walkin a long distance, etc...Ipods are expensive and you also have the right to monitor what tey listen to, but it's up to you whether you pay for it or make them earn it...computers are being used in school now right from the beginning, so it might be a good idea, too, but lay down the ground rules and tell them that you will be keeping track of what they do online (if you go that far)

I have a 13 yr.old daughter, a 3 yr. old son, a 12 yr. old stepson and a 10 yr. old stepson. They won't have their own computer in my home until they're 18. They won't have a cell phone until they are old enough to get a job and pay for it themselves. And we're thinking about getting them some inexpensive mp3 players for their b-days. We'll know what music is going on them before we download any for them, of course. My ex husband is talking about getting my daughter a cell phone for Christmas, but as long as I'm not paying for it, I don't care. I just don't see any reason for them to have cell phones before they start driving at least. It's not like their cars going to break down on them somewhere. I may be a little strict or overprotective, but I think you have to be in today's society.

depends on parents. I personally would think that all in moderation is fine. Computer can be educational, cell phone - so that child can be contactable or vice versa, ipod??!!!
