What are you opinions on why people in yahoo answers belittle those who ask a question and presume them to be of little intelligence? How else is someone meant to learn or see what other people's opinions are if they do not ask?

When one doesnt know the answer to a question, we turn around and attack the question to deflect the attention from the fact that we really do not know how to deal with the problem of the need to address the question intelligently. That is human nature.
Children who grow up with parents like that end up belittling their own childrens questions as well, instead of making a studied effort to research their kids questions. Notice the vicious cycle?
The Golden Rule "Do unto others what you want done to you" starts at home.
The upside about having belittlers in here is that also act as the barometer of the popularity of a question. They are a reality check.

I don't know about you, but if the question warrants belittlement, then that's what they'll get. For example, if someone asks: "I had unprotected sex last night and he didn't pull out, can I be pregnant?" Don't you think this question deserves to be ridiculed? I don't care how old you are, that question is retarded. Now there are others who ask very, very good questions and many others that fall in between. Those questions will, and I give them when required, get good answers. I think that there should be a filtering system that sets the stupid questions in a "trash" type list, and leave only the worthwhile questions open to be discussed and, like you said, educate the asker or show him/her your opinion on things. But then again, someone will start to cry about their question being listed as trash.

Some questions that are asked are questions that the person asking already knows the answer to and if they don't then they really are NOT intelligent. I agree with morningst, some people just want to be silly and/or rude and if a question is just plain stupid then it should not be allowed on Yahoo Q&A.

These people are like those who ring the doorbell and run away. With Yahoo Answers, they can play an anonymous prank and get away with it. Please, just ignore the idiots--there are always a certain percentage of them in the population--and pay attention to the good answers. I've been really impressed with the caring of most of the folks.

I'll be honest, I've been pretty harsh to some who have posed random questions on YA but you can tell straight away who are genuinely looking for other peoples opinions and advice and those who are just trying to evoke a reaction. Then there are those that just sound like absolute dafties, they NEED to be told to belt up.

Because they are trying to jerk up their points and have self esteem issues or some such reason to put others down...mostly to get points.

I find it very rude, and incredibly annoying. Yes, there are SOME questions which are clearly spoof or purely crude...but most are just innocent questions, and some people honestly DON'T know, so they ask. Even if it seems like DUH everyone knows this, it doesn't call for people to be indecent, belittling, or nasty like that :-/

You can not let other people's opinions bother you, only your own. Most people do it in fun. Some people have different humorous qualities than others. Stay true to yourself and "Live and Let Live!"

They are people just giving answers to pick up points, or people that can't say it to someones face.
