a neighborhood on the westside of midtown Manhattan , now called "Clinton" but to some will always be "Hell's Kitchen"
There is alot of history associated with the neighborhood, times were hard, there were diverse people populating it a "Hot MIx"
The Westie's were a notorious gang from the area, when I was growing up it was a rough neighborhood. Has been undergoing alot of rennovating and positive change with the demand for property and rise in real estate value , the property is prime.
it 's right alongside the times square district and borders the river district , My first apt in Nyc was in hells kitchen in the 70's & was $185 month for a studio and now, I doubt it's touchable for under $2000 a month

Hell's Kitchen ...more than a neighborhood...it's a state of mind. From the slaughterhouses and breweries of the 1800s, the draft riots of 1863, the Fighting 69th of World War I, the home of New York's most dangerous criminals from the early tenement days to Prohibition to the Westies, Hell's Kitchen rose from the blood and fire of the poor dreaming their riotous dreams and searing the urban landscape with a wild, demanding spirit. The story of Hell's Kitchen can be told in many ways, and must be told in many ways: in poetry and fiction, in art and film, biographies, histories and photographs. It's not one block, and it is. It's not one area, because the sum total is greater than what can be seen in a certain space or any lifetime. For all of us who live here, it's more than a narrative history, but the narrative history is essential to knowing it.

There is a bar in Tacoma, WA, called Hell's Kitchen. But it is also a t.v show, and it is referring to the fact that the head chef is so mean and strict that he is like the devile therefore his kitchen is like hell.

A game show where cooks compete and get judged by this mean chef. Its part of the usual dumb reality-show, melodramatic garbage we have everywhere today.
