You can blame Robinson - but few would argue that he is the best keeper we have. You can blame McLaren's experiment with 3-5-2 - but what would Scolari have done? You can blame the FA for taking Rooney out of the game when he least needed it. You can blame player excessive wages and their lack of hunger, the pitch, the weather, the government ........ However, for whatever reason it is time to face the fact that this crop of England players are not good enough. How many of them would be selected for, say, France or Germany, or even Croatia?

I think it's a combination of things - a misguided belief that England are somehow automatically better than nations like Croatia. When playing away in a country that has never lost at home - you shouldn't "expect" a victory.
I believe England have many quality players, and I think the managers should take some risks in their selections rather than just picking the same squad for years.
However, I think the most important reason why England aren't playing well (just playing well may not have stopped Croatia winning) is the management team - Steve McLaren was not an inspired choice - when people were asking for a complete change of approach - but worse - the appointment of Verry Terrables. He failed as an England manager in the 90's (failing to reach the final in a tournament staged in England (outplayed by Switzerland & Spain before being beaten by Germany)) before failing in Portsmouth, Australia, Leeds, et al

All people want is someone to blame. Fact. English football fans are never happy, if we dont win, its someone elses fault. Truth of the matter is, the last two games, we've played CR*P!!! We have no passion in our game. I'm not doubting the ability of any of our players, but they need to look like they WANT to play. We are however missing Hargreaves in midfield. He puts alto into his game and nobody can hold up midfield as well as he does.
And yes, the crop of English players is NOT good enough. And we have the English premiership to blame for that. Too many foreign players. And because of all the foreign players being so good, the home grown talent just isn't getting through.
I personally think that Beckham needs to come back into the squad. He may not have been a spectacularly good, or an amazing goal scorer. But he bought passion to the team, he boosted everyones spirits on and off the pitch.
And we need to stick to 4-4-2, thats what we do best.
I'm sure we'll get over it. I just hope the media go easy on Robbo, everyone makes mistakes.

why don't England wake up!! the man to take charge again is sat right long side Mclaren , Terry Venebles he reads football like no one else around so for goodness sake give him the position. and someone says Rob is the best goalie its a matter of opinion i think James should be there and I think they are missing Becks so come on you selectors just sit down and sort the bloody mess out and by the way Sven is having a good laugh at this bloody shambles. sorry Steve I didn't think you were the man for the job and now i have to believe it

This is the same team that had World-Class players just a few months ago.
Only the Nigels believed it and now you are angry to discover your heroes are ordinary footballers.
If you stopped reading The Sun and listening to child-like idiots like Motson you might get more realistic.
Of course the Nigels will not, cannot, do this and are destined to be disappointed forever.
Good.

i've been facing this truth for about 4 years. we're not a good team. we can't beat big teams and we can't grind out results against smaller ones. this new regime is no different to sven's, and may even be worse. i mean, mcclaren was there throughout sven's tenure. he was an integral part of how shite our side was
