okay, well ive been on ortho tricyclen lo since january. all was well until one day in may i had chest pain and shortness of breath. i went to the hospital and they took all these tests/x-rays. everything came back normal. since then i've had random panic attacks/shortness of breath. is this caused by the pill, you think? i also had a semi-traumatic experience taking my dad to the hospital after he shattered his ankle, so i thought maybe that contributed. i want to get off the pill anyway cause it's given me depression, frequent uti's, etc. but im goin on vacation in a week and dont want to have any bleeding or anything. what should i do? are the pills causeing my shortness of breath? can i stop pills midpack? sorry for all the questions, i just duno what to do! thanks for the help.

how about asking a doctor about all side effects? i can't believe he/she didn't talk with u about it before prescribing. i personally am against hormonal pills since my doctor told me about all side effects and the main one - they make u gain weight. so i have this ultra womb device, works ok for me - no weight gain and no pregnancies and no depression. think what kind of vacation u will have if u re depressed now because of pills?

stopping your pills mid-pack will not have any effects on anything other then your cycle - usually the eggs release is haulted (when on the "pill" otherwise known as hormonal birth control) by altering your hormonal levels. It also results in a thickening in the vaginal mucus - which helps prevent pregnancy as well. Side effects from immediatly stopping may include discharge, heavier cycle/unpredictable, and an increase in firtility. If you wear contacts and have been taking the pill prior to aquiring them, you may need them to be refitted, because the hormonal changes can actually morph the size/shape of your cornia/retina.
You just need to excersize extreme caution if you plan on having intercourse - use a condom w/ spermacide lubricant.
Your shortness of breath and chest pains sound more like panic attacks, which are brought on by anxiety from a traumatic event - and can occur at any given time. They can feel like asthma, and can be scary - but all in all they are predominatly harmless - just take deep, slow breaths and think calming thoughts. There is a small chance that the pill could be contributing to these attacks - you need to look at the interval in which the attacks began in comparison to when you began taking the pill.
Best of luck to you!

If you stop the pills mid-pack you will get a withdrawal bleed. Talk to you doctor about the panic attacks
