I'm going to have my second baby in 8 weeks. And all of a sudden I have been terrified of labor and delievery. With my daughter my water broke at 12:30am and I didn't start having contractions till 11:00 am at 2:00pm I was 2cm and my baby was born at 5:45pm. It was very fast so fast that when I asked for meds they said it was to early then 2 hours later I asked agin and they said it was to late. I'm scared about the pain and I want meds this time. But I heard the second one is usually faster than the first.

They did something similar to me with my first. I had been dialated to 4 cm for nearly two wks b4 I went into active labor. By the time I got to the hospital and laid down I was at nearly 7cm. I asked for meds and they said the anesthesiologist was unavailable and it was too late anyways for meds! Thankfully I had her fast.. I only labored for about 1 1/2 hrs and pushed for 30 min to deliver my 9lb2oz daughter. Ouch!

With my second: I prepped! I told the Dr straight up: IM GONNA WANT MEDS! Give me a epidural ASAP! And that he DID! With my son I had a similar dialation process: I was at 5 cm for a month. They induced me at 38 wks.. stretched me to a dialation for 6 with their fingers (ouchie) and then gave me my epidural! I was nervous about getting it, bust honestly, it didnt hurt much at all!! NOTHING compared to labor I tell you! Then I was in heaven! My husband and I chilled and watched Comedy Central for about three hrs.. PAINFREE! Then the DR came in and was like "Ok time to push." And boom.. I got my 7lb10oz son.

The second one wasnt faster because of the meds I suppose. But thats ok. it didnt hurt! Also, I felt physically better aftrer my 2nd. I didnt feel woozy or drowsy after the epidural like everyone tried to tell me Id feel (i sware those 'all natural' moms are just out there to scare you to death!) And had no problems functioning and my son was 100% healthy and not effected by the epidural either.

Just prep. Let them know what u want ahead of time. Your Dr can make sure that u get what u want that way. And your labor and birthing process will be easier.

Congrats and goodluck!

With my first, it went fast also. I went into the hospital at 2am and had her at 7:40am. My second, I ended up having a C-section at the last minute because she was breech. The good part is you know more, the bad part is you know more. I do believe it is very normal to have anxieties about delivery the second time around. I almost missed my meds on the first, they gave me an epidural anyway and then said it may or may not take effect in time. Luckily it did. Just remember, you have been through it once, so you know you can go through it again. Make sure to keep a focal point during your contractions. And now you will know when too late is coming so you will be able to ask at the right time. Good Luck to you and have faith that everything is going to be just fine.

It is so much scarrier the second time, because you know what is going to happen! It is common to have a faster labour the second time around. Write down a birthing plan. Type of birth you would like (in the shower, bath, standing, squatting, whatever). Include who you would like to have in the room with you and what meds you would like. You cant guarantee all will go to plan but at least all of wishes can still be communicated even if you are to busy screaming the hospital down to ask. Make sure the midwife, doctors and birthing partner all know what you would like ahead of time, and do not be afraid to speak up. It is your body and your baby! Good luck

my first was 13 hours, both of my second two were exactly 4 hrs. Just be aware of your body and make sure your doctor knows your fears ahead of time. When you arrive at the hospital and they acutually check you in, make sure you tell every nurse what happened last time and that you want meds. Bug them till they shove the meds in your face. It is your birth, don't be afraid of bugging people or being a bother, be one. You need to be comfortable. If you have a coach or partner there, ask them to bug the nurses and doctors as well. My husband was GREAT at that. Good luck and don't worry I am pregnant with our fourth and scared to death as well. Good luck and congratulations.

Good Luck!! I hear that the second babies are often faster. But that's pretty darn fast for the first.. Just be glad you didn't have a 46 hour labour with pain meds having worn off too many times to allow anyore!

Both of mine were induced (overdue) and the pain meds wore off multiple times, lots of meds to keep labor going, and many hours of contractions later, I had my children. Both were long labors --

What you had was fast -- really, really fast. Don't know what to expect then -- so you may want to keep your due date in mind, and did your 1st come before the due date calculated -- on the due date or late? That will help calm your mind and help you through this second labor/delivery.

Hi niknac,
Make sure your doctor is aware that you want the drugs you can talk with him/her & let him/her know your concerns & discuss what kinda drugs to give you, you can inform the nurses when you get to the hospital ( bug all the nurses cause you know they change from shift to shift & scream if you have to get the drugs)what you & the doctor have discussed on what drugs you need. Usually your 2nd, 3rd & 4th in my case the babies came faster. (actually my 4th came 1/2 hour after I got there-no labor at all). Congrats- Good luck & relax not good to be stressed. :0)

Yes, second dilivery is faster than first one. This is because first dilivery streatches the birth passage making it more relaxed for next deliveris. This time u wont need episiotomy also.
