There are people whos job is to Value Properties, they cost of cause but to be sure you are going to get value for money its the best choice. When applying for a home, Banks or Lending facilities require that this is done any way and is usually a part of the fees that you pay when purchasing

You can hire the services of an appraiser, but the current owners will have to agree to let the appraiser into their house. You can look up the address at Zillow using the following link:

http://www.zillow.com/

I have found the Zillow website to be fairly accurate when it comes to the valuation of property and I use it frequently when looking for investment property.

In the end, your best source of information will probably be your real estate agent. An experienced agent will know the approximate value of comparable property in the neighborhood and will usually give you valuable guidance. Best of all, their services are free to a buyer since they make their money from the sellers proceeds of a real estate transaction.

Good luck with your search.

your local county tax assessor's office should have a website with the previous sales prices and square footage of homes on the street you want to buy on. My county bases property tax on current market value and it is close to what I'd sell it for. The info isn't always 100% accurate but it is close. Also try bankofamerica.com >products and services>home equity> tools and calculators>HOME VALUE SEARCH - (I know that is where you want to end up - you may have to play with the steps). It will give you a value range of the specific house address you input. Good Luck
