Why do black think that the US government owes them money from slavery.?

They werent slaves themselves so why should we have to pay. I do understand that their families were mistreated. The majority of my family will killed in Germany during WWII in the gas chambers and you don't hear us going after the current German government. I think that welfare has been enough reparations for them!

Are all whites going to have to pay? My family came here in the 1600's, never owned slaves, and were participants in the underground railroad. Why should I pay anything?

There are extremist's in every race, culture and religion. Do not take what a few nut cases say to speak for the whole black community. If we were to do that then do we have to give all Native Americans back their land? Normandy back to Britain? Mexico back to Spain? If we go back far enough almost every race has displaced or mistreated every other race. Does Germany owe the Jewish people? How about the Chinese getting some money from the Mongols or Japanese? This could go on forever! How about working to get along with each other now, without the snide references to Welfare as if only blacks are on it. Most of my friends that are on Government assistance are white. Lazy as crap too.

It's a complicated question, that has a complicated answer. On the pro side, it's our governments job to "right wrongs". Why do we have the justice system? Believe me, we and our parents pay for justice EVERYDAY for people who do bad things to other people, and we had nothing to do with it. By paying for prisons, judges, attorneys, etc. And we have in the past made reparations for the sins of our ancestors. But we do it because we believe it betters our society, and the victims deserve justice, and the wrong doer's deserve punishment. And also, because a law was already passed for slave reparations, but was never fully carried out. (1867, 40 acres and a mule. Ring a bell?) But on the con side, not every Black person believes that they should, and it's usually because we have done well and have overcame some of the lingering effects of slavery in this country. And really, only Black people and sympathizers know that's like, because we experience it. But some of us also understand that the world isn't fair. So for you to say "why do Black people", is to say "Why do all Black people", which is not the case. That would be the same as me saying "Why are Euro-Americans so self-rigthteous and think they are better than descendants from other races?" But not all the people think like that. Just like you don't think you deserve reparations, but alot of other Jewish citizens do (Jewish Reparations Commission, 1998).

I think "pwlewis1974" (one of the respondents to your question) hit the nail on the head. The fact of the matter is that when ever something horrible happens to some people feel that they should somehow be compensated for past sufferings. This is not exclusive to some black people in the US.
While your family may not have wanted any compensation some families of Jewish descent do. As some families of Japanese people interned during WWII want compensation. This phenomenon can also be evidenced all around the world.

By the way, nice subtle undertones. Welfare as reparations? Are you serious? So are reparations being paid to the many Caucasian people on welfare?

I don't want money from slavery. I wasn't a slave.

The reason I'm posting is to ask you if you know your history. Jewish people did go after the government. After WW2 the German government was stripped down and separated into the east and west. Also there are many watchdog groups, like the ADL that attack anything that is antiJewish so it won't happen again.

Jews don't "need to attack the german govenrment" because after the war things were pretty much settled back right away. Plus there were plenty of foundations and charities to build holocaust musuems and to help Jews move into Israel.

I don't think you even know what you are talking about. What are 13 years old? Your post reaks of racism. Please do your homework.

It's the "I am a victim syndrome"....The blacks ( I say blacks because they come from many countries).....have the Rev. Jacksons and the like telling them they will not amount to anything......Giving them money and making companies acknowledge that they had some sort of dealing with the slave trade, which is nothin more than a set up, would not change their current habits.
Granted it would change some of their life style but, what good would it do?
The young blacks of today have no clue what discrimination is, they are targeted for how they act and present themselves......they should ask their grandmother what discrimination really is like.

I dont bear in mind Irish human beings being slaves, plus they got here on their very own unfastened will. the place is the evidence that maximum slaves have been dealt with properly? Do you call lynching and whipping reliable therapy? My ingredient is whilst Jews gained their reparations no person complained, no longer one grievance why is that? most of the educated black people dont fill that way.the not so educated black people should know that there own kind sold them into slavery first.
