We live on a peninsula in the country. There isn't anywhere to get measurements done. I was a heavy-chested early bloomer and don't remember that transition. How do you know?

Best just to stay one step ahead of the game - go ahead and get the A-cup. Let her switch when she finds the A more comfortable than the training bra. Once she's wearing those regularly, buy a few B cups for her next transition.

Even better - size her yourself! Just make sure you use a soft tape measure similar to those used for sewing. Here are instructions:

If you're still unsure, here's a site that simply allows you to enter in the measurements, and does the calculations for you:

Take two factors into account.

One, how old is she, and what are all her friends wearing? If they are all wearing A-cup bras, and they somehow know or find out she's still in a training bra, they might tease her. Would she feel more comfortable in a genuine bra? Ask her.

Two, you can do the measurements yourself and order from the Penney's or Sear's catalog, or online. Take a fabric tape measure (or a string and then measure that with a tape measure or yardstick to get the length).

Measure around the chest, just under the arms, above the bust. This is your BAND OR BODY SIZE. If your measurement ends in a fraction or is an odd number, round up to the next even size.

To find the cup size, measure around the fullest point of the bust, keeping the tape level without pulling tight. If the difference between the band size and this measurement is 0", she wears a AA cup. If it is 1", an A cup. 2", a B cup.

If she has any breast at all she is probably ready for the A cup. Some places sell a half cup. Just measure her with a tape measure. Her breast needs to be 1 inch bigger than her ribcage measurement to fit in the A cup.

take measurement around the fullest place at chest-all the way around boobs- then measure area just below boobs. subract fullest point from just below boob point. ex. 35-34, 36-32. 1 inch is an A, 2=B, 3=C and beyond. good luck!

I guess its once they start getting big. Once you notice that the training bra isn't doing it anymore, then get her the reaal bras.
