its pretty difficult to convince a son to dress up like a girl especially when he's at that age.

but there are a lot of good costumes for medieval girls or even boys.

check out these sites:

www.anniescostumes.com
www.costumecraze.com
www.halloweenmart.com

to name a few

I think its a good idea, and I think your son is brave to try this. I expect he will receive some teasing from his friends.

Since he is doing a switch with a girl, I suggest you contact the girl for some ideas. She may already have some things she could lend you.

For suggestions the period will require a long dress and blouse. Look for an over-sized white blouse with long sleeves. Then go through old prom dresses. This may require a visit to a good will store. A black lace corset/vest would be worn over it all. You may have to make the corset/vest from a black piece of cloth and a long shoe lace. A long wig and a little make up is also a requirement.

Make it as simple as possible and don't try to be sexy. Do not use a bra, a slip, petticoat, or panyhose, or women's shoes. He should wear his own sandals, socks, underwear and t-shirt underneath. If he wants to wear women's undergarments then I'd begin to worry.

That's good! Hmmmm.... medieval female....

Heck, why don't you just put a raggedy potato sack dress on him, roll him around in the dirt for awhile, and tell him not to shower for a few days before Halloween? That'd be about accurate.

As an added aside, don't worry about 'cross dressing' lol. First of all, there's nothing wrong or immoral about cross dressing; its just something some people like to do. Does it hurt anyone? No. Secondly, teaching your kid about cross dressing isn't going to somehow make him a cross dresser. Kids are people too, and they are fully capable of handling these kinds of issues. In fact, I think they often handle them better than adults do.

Have him play the dutiful "Lady" to the girl going as a Knight --his hero in shining Armour. Some kind of billowing dress and wig and makeup with his hair in lace ribbons. The dress should be so long that he might have to hold his skirt up to keep his hem up to avoid dragging or tripping as he walks. He'll feel beholden to the girl who leads him on protecting the "dainty" behaviour coerced by the restriction of female attire. That should give them a sufficient sense
of role reversal for the occasion.

Try you local discount halloween store. They may have an adult version you could tailor.

And for the other perple thinking your a bad parent maybe they forgot what the idea behind Halloween is. Which is to be someone you are not! Hense the costume!

Happy Haunting & tell your son to enjoy his evening :)

Hey you are okay just breath. You could do a search for period dress. Outside of making the costume yourself it will be hard to find such an odd costume. Good luck on him not getting beat up by other kids who don't get the role reversal thing

You can check out ren fairs, and if you find an online site for a renfaire they usually have links to the vendors websites. Try www.texrenfest.com . Have fun!

What is everyones problem? The kid wanted to switch. Couples do that for Halloween all the time! .....The potato sack idea is funny though.

Personally I would not advise teaching or promoting cross-dressing at this age.
