Only one US state has legalized gay marriage. That is Massachusetts. There are a steadily growing number of countries that have legalized gay marriage. The US however seems to be a long way from that.

Hawaii voted on it a few years ago. The move was defeated. So at this time the only state with actual legalized gay marriage is MA. I believe there are a few states that offer civil unions, but that is not the same thing at all.

Massachusetts has legal gay marriages, but only for residents of Massachusetts. You can't go there as a couple to get married. Even if you are married there as residents, then move, your marriage may only be recognized in Massachusetts and companies in your home state may deny you benefits.
