As long as that animal hasn't been in contact with a human, yes its life is better.

Life's evolved to what it is,
And, what will be, it isn't.
When Kingdom's come,
And all is done,
We'll all be something different.

This reality is built on the rule: Eat or be eaten. In order to survive, we constantly have to avoid being eaten, whether by tigers or microbes, and we have to eat living, or once living, things either plant or animal. That condition operates at many levels, including the joy of the hunt which helps produce food. That joy is a bit unsettling now that we are "civilized," but even in wartime, we get a thrill of sorts -- of one upping our enemies. That is "eating or be eaten" in operation. Now to answer the question: Humans are animals so is it better at the top of the food chian or below it? At the top, you may have a better chance of living out your life (safety in numbers, survival of the fittest) but the rules of engagement (eat or be eaten) haunt us in the workplace, playing field or dinner table. You tell me...is that a better life that what Fido experiences? A lot of pros and cons to weigh. My solution: Don't ask and expect any answer that will permit your condition to change. You are what you are and make the best of it: Treat all live with respect, but enjoy what you eat.

I love the question. Of course it all depends. Some animals exhibit qualities of character that put many humans to shame. Animals are Soul as are you and I. Animals often suffer from the abuse of humans just as humans can suffer much from the abuse of each other. I think animals generally suffer less physiologically than because they are less burdened by the stupid worries of humans invent for themselves. I consider being human a special privilege with responsibilities that include caring for animals. I benefit a lot from the love animals return to me.

Let´s put it this way; when was the last time you saw an animal torturing another for pleasure. And you can't state as hard fact that animals don't feel pleasure, since some of them copulate while not trying to reproduce!

Now, if you try to postulate that animals are inferior because they lack a "soul", specially if you are a follower of roman catholicism, try to remember, WHEN was the last time animals burnt alive their fellows because their dared to THINK? When!?

I´d rather be a monkey...

I hope the ancient beliefs of reincarnation are true. Then we will all know eventually what an animal's life is like. I always wanted to come back as a seagull. They have so much fun flying!

An animal's life is not better or even equal to a human's life. Humans have spirits. Animals do not. If they did people would be bent on converting them to respective religions or political views. It is a shame that man torture animals. It is true they have feelings however they live by instinct. As humans we do not live by instinct. Our mental capacities far exceed what our bodies dictate to us to do.
