I 've been having periods that stop for 4-6months at a time then start again but very light. They already done a pregnancy test with urine it came out negative. I have my tubes done, since 2001.i have been nausea off and on, tired the first 2 months , bloaded with feet swelling sometimes.I am going to an doc on Friday, but I don't know what to ask them. Should I ask for an blood test and sonogram? they keep telling me they can't unless the urine test is postive. is this true? i have been having this probelm since 2004. help me!!

I can't really answer your question, but there is a book I can recommend you read. I'm 26, married, and thought I knew everything about what goes on in my body during my cycle. I was wrong! "Taking Charge of Your Fertility: The Definitive Guide to Natural Birth Control and Pregnancy Achievement" by Toni Weschler fully explains the changes that happen during a woman's cycle. You can actually track the changes and accurately predict your next period. (Even if you are irregular. I used to worry that I was pregnant. I don't anymore!) She also tells you good things to ask your doctor. I checked this book out from my local library. You might check yours.

When you go to the doctor, as long as you are willing to pay for tests the doc doesn't feel are necessary, they can be done. First, doesn't sound like you are pregnant. Ask for a comprehensive blood test. If you are not happy with your doctor, ask for a referral for a second opinion. Tell the doc straight up, I am not pregnant, so we need to find out what is causing these symptoms. If your doctor is unwilling to order blood tests to try and find out what is wrong, find another doctor.

i'm confused-if you had your tubes tied there is no real chance you are preggers because the egg can't reach the party? Did it say this has been going on for two plus years?Again, not possible to be preggers for THAT long(even if it felt like forever in month nine...) Light periods or non exisitent periods aren't uncommon-Tiredness, bloating and swollen feet can be symptoms of your period(usually a couple days before or during) they are not limited to pregnancy.

you dont need a blood pregnancy test done. if your tubes are tied and the urine is neg, you are not pregnant. you did not say how old you are but are you in your 40's, could be menopausal symptoms. they will know what to check, you dont need to tell them. they should check your thyroid and prolactin levels, maybe and fsh for menopause, the sonogram will not give much info here. there are other tests that may be done but the doctor will know about them. if they think you have pcos or mention it may be, they should also check your cholesterol level and screen you for diabetes.
