I had someone tell me they were given these by their doctor and I am having a hard time believing that its something a doctor would give someone during their pregnancy..even if it was for a short period of time for passing a kidney stone.

Does that seem right??

A doctor did prescribe them to me while pregnant. He knew I was pregnant too. I can't even remember what it was for, I just know I didn't take them. It didn't seem right.

Some docs will prescribe narcodics to pregnant women for a short time (7 days or less), sighting that the pain of the mother puts more harmfull stress on baby than the narcodic. But I have not seen vicadin being given, rather tylonal 3, darvicet occationally morphine (in hospital atmoshire only). Remeber many narcodics are given continuisly throught labor up to 48 hours they usually just make baby sleepy. Butif you think this mom is using as a street drug talk to her or someone who can. And the guy above is correct if it is in her system when she goes into hospital for a emerganacy or labor she can be charged with neglet if she does not have a rx script.

When a medication is given and the person takes it the way it is prescribed it is fine.
My doctor wrote me out lorcet plus (which is the same as vicodin) for pain. My baby was born healthy. If it was wrong to take painkillers during pregnancy then they wouldn't give pain shots to women that are in labor.

People are on all types of meds throughout their pregnancy for different condtions and as long as it is took the way the doctor says nothing will happen badly.

Panadol and tylenol are the only risk-free discomfort drugs you're taking at an identical time as pregnant. Your maximum possibly feeling pains what's stated as RLS - under pressure leg syndrome, its like a crawling feeling throughout your legs and is often deep burning pains contained in the better thighs, its a actual discomfort contained in the ****.

I thought it was strange too, but I had to have a minor surgery procedure during my 6th month of pregnancy and I was given Vicodin, being told that it was okay and not harmful to the baby.

Not true. A doctor wouldn't do this "if he knew a woman was pregnant."

I know a woman who this happen to and upon birth of the child she was charged with child abuse and medical neglect. she lost custody of her baby to the foster care system. you might want to warn her that the hospitals do substance screenings on new borns.

well, when you take a kidney stone into account I think there are a lot of things doctors will permit.......the distress of passing kidney stones could make a woman lose her baby.

eh.. my doctor put me on Vicodin and anti-biotics while I was actually pregnant (though, long story) and I had no complications with my son.. Vicodin can only hurt if abused.. make sure to monitor your friend's consumption
