I have put in my two weeks notice , the reason being I have been informed by a teenager that she is getting more money than me!! I have spoke to my manager about this and she said to me she wishes I reconsider , also I have been informed that they will go up the ladder to see if they can help me get more hours if a raise is out of the question, should I be looking out for a trick, they could be really thinking about giving me my walking papers ?? because nobody in this world can be trusted especally managers they can be down right dirty and underhanded and they can also be backstabbers as well , I have a good work record im always on time and I have been very reliable so I dont see me getting fired for insabordination that for sure please let me know what you think

1st you should not have handed in your notice but yes you should confront them about your wages, if you are a hard worker and dependable like you say I am sure they will want to keep you on. Instead of being Angry be glad that the teenager was so honest and maybe actually helping you to get a raise, try to be patient, if you already put in your notice then you have to stick to your guns, you do not want to work for a company that does not respect their employee's, but if you make too big of a deal they will be glad to see you go, so just try to sit back and wait for their response. Good Luck...

I would leave also, I went through the same thing and if you think that this is the only thing there are going to do wrong then rethink this because if you stay there you are only doing what they want you to do and as soon you start getting more hours they are going to either drop your hours again or they are going to get rid of you. I wouldn't stay there because obviously they do not appreciate all the hard work you are doing. I've been there. I was working for this mortgage company when I had started there were 4 of us doing the same job 1 month later they had let the other 3 go, then it was just me. Then I was trained to do data entry with 2 other people, a little bit later the manager decided to get rid of those 2 people. I was moving up the ladder but no raise and I was working my A** off ( and I was pregnant) so just to prove that all my hard work was not appreciated, I was promised that after I had my baby that I would be able to come back to work for them. so 2 weeks after I had my son, I went to visit and I was informed that my job was no longer available for me, But that's fine because I had a feeling that this was going to happen so 2 months before I left on maternity leave I started Real Estate Broker school, and now I am a Real Estate Broker. Well, I hope you the best of luck and I hope this inspired you to make the best decision. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go to your Human Resourse Director. Assuming you have one.One reason newer people end up getting more is because they start after the minimal wages are raised. So while you may have started years ago at a lower wage and had to wait for either a pay raise or anniversary wage to climb up to what newbies are making now just starting out. Frustrating I know! I think that whenever the wages are increased then the difference amount should be applied to our wages for those of us working before the increase. Where I worked it was the human Resource Director who can determine if your pay is fair and can approve an increase through administration. If you work in a small company with just one boss and no other department heads then good luck trying to get anywhere. Ask that your notice be on hold for now until your manager can talk to higher management. If they hand you walking papers then they are idiots. By chance did you make a copy of your notice? It's a good idea to do so in the event they do try to pink slip you. You can use it to show umemployment so that they will have to keep paying you.

Under the assumption that the teenager is telling the truth and that he/she is not more qualified than you (I doubt it), my take is to look for another job where you are appreciated and compensated accordingly. I would not quit until I have a new job though. If they fire you for complaining about being underpaid, you should sue especially if you can prove that the teenager is less qualified than you and better compensated. Honestly, I think you will not get fired, they apparently like to keep you where you are and at the salary they are paying you now. You may even get a small raise out of this, especially if you are good at what you do and they never told you so. No matter how you slice it, you are under a very bad manager (I am a manger myself and I do not treat my teammates like that!) Best of luck!
