Worst: The phone call from overseas telling my my fiance had died....
Toughest: Calling my sister, who was estranged from our mom, and telling her my mom had died.
Neither phone call could be done in person - and I hate those type of phone calls... there is no way you can be on the other end to comfort the other person or be comforted...

Toughest call I have had to make was telling my Grandparents that I was getting divorced. (They aren't close and had no idea how miserable I was because we didn't keep in touch.)
Toughest call I've gotten? One from my high school/college boyfriend of four years breaking up with me. (Coward!)
I would say finding out my Grandpa died, but I didn't get that call. My mom told me face to face.

The worst was when I had to answer a call. My mother in law had been taken to the hospital and her sister called to see how she was doing. I couldn't lie, and I didn't know what else to say, so when she asked there was any word, I just kind of blurted out... "um... she died."
Her sister freaked out, started crying, thanked me for telling her, and hung up.

Actually, the worst phone call I received was from a woman who claimed that i had broken her heart and ruined her life and that she was going to kill herself. I should stop screening the call and answer the phone.
The problem? It was a wrong number.

I will never forget it. I had to spend a Christmas alone in an empty house. One morning at 3 Am my roommate's mom called and shouted at me in Korean for like 2 minutes. I was like "Mam, this isn't your daughter.....I don't' know where she is........please don't yell..........". I just hung up and tried to sleep. Crappy waking up to a screaming person. In the day it's a whole other bag of cats, but at night it's freaking frightening.

I'm a firefighter/paramedic. I was working a medic shift and went on a call to a car accident. I won't go into detail, but it turned out to be my uncle, he passed away in the accident, and I had to call my mother and tell her.

Your house is on fire and they can't find Jos'e. I corrected her and said it is Sammy they can't find and it was true. It was the worst phone call that I have ever received.
