My son is 4 months old and is still getting up every 21/2 to 3 hours to feed (bottle fed). I recently started feeding him a tea spoon of pablem before bed as well as 8 oz of formula. My first born was sleeping through the night by 2 to 3 months. Is there any other suggestions to get him sleeping through the night? I'm sooo tired!

By 4 months your baby should be taking a bottle every 4-5 hours. Maybe he is not satisfied and you should try giving him rice cereal before bed to keep him full through the night. But I would definitely try anything to get him to sleep and he must feel tired too if he is only having cat naps. Try cereal. If it continues see his doc about it because you don't want for a pattern like that to continue! Good luck!

not sure myself what Pablem is... cereal? But a spoon of rice cereal in a bottle of milk may help watch so the milk is coming through though. Is baby waking really because of hunger?Probably. Is your child eating any foods in the day? Maybe try introducing cereals and fruits if your not yet.

I am a mother of 8 and each child is different. There is no sure way to make a child sleep through the night. I always put mine in bed with me and breastfeed so as not to wake up so often. When I get to the bottle stage they usually wake up once in the night but not all of them did. Each one is different and can not be made to be the same.

Not all babies are the same. My first son was sleeping through the night at 3 months. My second son didn't start sleeping through until he was 11 months old.

My suggestion--your baby is still young and still needs middle-of-the-night bottles to keep him healthy and thriving. You don't want him to be sickly and weak, do you? Buck up and realize that sleep deprivation is part of parenthood.

I think you just got lucky. The question is how long does he stay up when he wakes up? If he eats and falls right back out I'd say count your blessings. I remember those days. . . my daughter is almost 8 months and still wakes up in the night but just wants soothed or a quick drink and she's back off to night night. When he gets a little older and starts eating baby food, etc, you can try switching his formula for water and night and that tends to keep them from waking up for it. But don't do that till he is getting most of his needs met from other sources besides formula.

Consult your Pediatrician about adding cereal to his diet.

Colic is also a possibility. When my first born had colic I would lay him on my bare skin,(norton is a girl) he often went to sleep there. Rides in cars helped too.

You and hubby should take turns. I don't care if he has to go to work, so do you. If you need to get other relatives to spell you occasionally, Do. You getting some rest, is every bit as important as baby getting some rest. You did not create this child alone.

First step with a newborn, should always go through a Pediatrician. He has seen this child.

Every baby is different, You need to stop comparing him to others. I know how tired you are, but there's nothing that's going to make him sleep straight through. Instead of trying to force him, how about getting you some support, like a grandparent, whose willing to take him for a night or two so that you can recharge? Make a schedule of it, and then it won't seem like it will never end.

Maybe it's time to start him on some solids. Both my kids started at 4 months. It certainly helps fill them! Also, someone else said about breast milk not being strong enough anymore. Maybe if you're not ready to try solids you could try "topping up" with formula - I had to do that with my second and 2 months.

I soooooooooooo know what you are going through, but my little one was 6 months. it didn't matter what i tried she still didn't sleep through the night. in the end it was my mom that said it could be my breast milk, and it was, my milk wasn't strong enough for my daughter and she wasn't getting full. So i put her on powdered milk and from that day she slept through the night. I'm not saying that that might be happening with you but it could be something to look in to. the same thing happened when i had my son, i could only breast feed for nine days with him.

Do not put cereal in his bottle. I've heard that they could choke. Every child is different. Don't compare him to your first born.
