I had a plecostemus in my freshwater fishtank for years, and it recently died. I bought another, so I wouldn't accumulate too much algae, but it promptly died too. Then a third one lived for only a week in my tank. There's enough algae and decay in the tank to keep them nourished, and my chemical, PH, and heavy metal levels are all on target. What tank condition would kill off plecos so consistently, while all my other fish are alive and healthy, and the tank's bio level is well adjusted? Any thoughts?

properly, first of all fish are very gentle, they do greater desirable without all of the chemical ingredients. So i'm specific they might do without the algae destroyer, brite n sparkling, sparkling water, chlor out and ick away. in actuality, even whilst they have ich, alot of experts say to objective salt first because of fact the medicine can kill your fish. What i could do is sparkling the completed tank without cleansing soap. stop using all of the chemical ingredients. in case you have too lots algae, purchase an algae eater, or 2. I genuinely have 2 for my sixty 5 gallon and that i've got on no account even seen algae! :) in the event that they have ich attempt salt first. and maybe get some rigidity coat to put in. the style I genuinely have helps the fish cope and it takes out the chlorine and stuff to boot. additionally, be certain you do weekly 15-20% water variations the place you replace the water with new water and then upload the in accordance volume of the strain chlorine stuff. additionally, maybe attempt cycling the tank for the recomended 3 weeks till now including to any extent further fish to the tank.newly wiped sparkling tank. Oh, and the clarification why your (Im assuming algae eater) remains alive is becase those issues are ridiculously hardy and might thrive in all varieties of situations. reliable success!

It is very likely that this is not your fault. It might be that the shipment of Plecos that your local fish shop is selling are sick or just stunned by mal treated shipment. Try acclimatising you pleco for a few hours before letting him loose in your tank. Put the bag in the water and slowly add some of your tanks water over a period of a couple of hours to minimize stress.

I'm sure you need to feed them "algae disk". These sink to the bottom of the tank. The pleco's come out to feed on them after you put them in. These are good because most tanks don't have enough algae for them to have a good diet. Try this. I think you'll have much better luck.

How high is your ammonia, nitrities & nitrates in that tank?

The only other consideration might be that the temperature might be a bit too high for them.
