Hi Everyone.

I'm a 20 year old 6'4 female (yes, extreamly tall) and weigh about 171lbs right now.
I run 60-90 mins a day(never miss a day, even when I was sick with the flu) and am always doing things during the day to get in that little extra bit of exercise (Such as parking far away from the store, taking the stairs instead of the elevator)

Anyhow, could my exercise be the reason I haven't had a menstral period in 3 months? I KNOW I'm not Pregnant (Haven't had sex in quite some time)
I feel healthy, happy, eating 1500 calories a day... Just I haven't had my period!
What could cause this? Should I be extreamly worried?

Thanking you in advance,

Melissa

Hi Melissa. I do not think it is your exercise regimen though it is a possibility. you do indeed exercise alot, however exercise induced amenorrhea is usually seen with extreme athletes who really over train and have very low body fat percentages. you should see a gynecologist to run some tests. missing a month every now and then is fine, but 3 months deserves an investigation. most likely they will find nothing wrong and place you on birth control pills or provera to induce your periods. not having regular periods can increase your risk for uterine cancer, so do not ignore this for years and years. i am sure you have nothing to worry about now, but some women do ignore this for years on end just thinking they have irregular cycles

Hi Melissa, your condition seems abnormal. I know you probably have the answer to your question and that is to see a doctor. It's normal to miss a month, but missing 3 months is quite major. Don't be worried. Go to a doctor to get your worries away! I hope you are well.

Usually women who do not have periods from exercise are extremely thin and you are not..are you avoiding all fats? Your diet has very few calories for someone your height with your activity level...fat holds estrogen and that protects you from bone loss..if you do not lay down bone in your young years you do not have it to lose after menopause...lots of women in their late 20s and early 30s are shocked to find they have bone loss even though they have exercised diligently and eaten "right" I would agree it is time to see the gynecologist...

As Mr Atul Kumar stated, Its a organic technique. you shouldn't interrupt it by using utilising drugs etc. it is going to be volatile for you. As you're very youthful, it may soreness you extra. yet once you go 20, your cycle will boost. So give up thinking approximately it. Take it ordinary- Be proud to be a woman. Something is stressing you out that you're not telling us. Maybe your body is telling you to take a day off with the exercise. Body's need rest. 171 sounds healthy for your hight, and even slender. Please get yourself some rest. I bet it will come when you've rested a bit.
