we are trying to conceive for last eight months and no result. we consulted a doctor and she told us to wait for another three months before checkup..my husband has undergone a sperm analysis and the result is not so good..the count is 3% where 4%is supposed to be the minimum count..motility is also very less..my friend advised me to visit a doctor to find out whether there is a vericose vein in the testicles which may cause blockage..but according to my belief vericose veins are usually seen on the legs..she said that if there is a vericose vein he might have to remove it through surgery...we are planning to see the doctor in december..in india...does anybody have a similar situation? kindly reply..

Your friend is not incorrect. Varicocele is a term used to describe a condition where there are varicose veins around the testicle and vas deferens. In the case of varicoceles, there is an increase in the blood flow and temperature around the testicle. Even a small varicocele may be significant and affect sperm production. Fortunately this can usually be corrected by surgery.
My husband was tested in 98 (4 years after stopping smoking) and his count was on the low side of normal. He was tested again 2 months ago (5+ years after starting smoking again) and his count was off the charts. He works construction so the extreme temperature changes didn't affect him. Since 98 the only thing he did different was change from briefs to boxers. About 2 months before being tested this time he started taking one a day for men and 500mg of vitamin c per day. Normal sperm count is 40,000,000 (20,000,000 per testicle). My hubby's was 265,000,000. The motility is based on a point system where 150 is considered normal. Hubby's was 185. And morphology is on an even stricter point system where 15 is considered normal. Hubby's was 18. My doctor said that a low sperm count does not necessarily mean that he can't impregnate you. Everyday situations and stress can affect the sperm and therefore he should be tested again in a couple of months. Have hubby start taking the vitamins. They may not help but it definitely can't hurt. Good Luck and hope this helped.
Oh by the way Hubby is 48!!!!!!!!!

My husband and I have been trying almost a year, since last November. Every three months they get a new batch of sperm.
So thats why she told you to wait for 3 mos. Then they will prolly test him again. My husband has to be tested agin soon too. Since its cooler weather. The heat can kill sperm too and make the rest whats left inside there real slow.So that is a factor to look at. My husbands count was 0.5 mill, and the Dr. said it needed to be at least 20mill or more. The shape was 2% and supposed to be 5% or more. So I know where your coming from. Hot baths or hot showers can make a man sterile for a while too.
