Poles do not pay points.Points are for finishing position in the race, lading a lap,and leading the most laps.Kasey has not been the most consistant driver. He will win a race but the next week get involved in an acccident and end up 38 th and gets very few points.
A driver who finishes in the top 5 consistantly all year earns more points than one who wins 5 or 6 races but has problems in other races.Even look at the chase points and you will see that the drivers in7,8,9,10 th spot have had problems during the chase, where the top 2 or 3 have been running steady and consistant.

Kasey is a winner not a consistent finisher. This means he goes all out for wins and sometimes ends up crashing by over driving the car. Kasey is the best driver out there right now and just needs to sometimes settle for a top 5 or 10 when the car is not as good as he would like.

If Kasey was more consistent then he would have more points. Look at Dale Jr back in 2004...he had 6 wins yet he wound up 5th in the points standings do to bad luck and some DNFs.
You can win all the poles and win the most races all you want but that doesn't mean that your going to win a championship! Kurt Busch and Matt Kenseth both proved that consistency will win you a championship.

You don't get points for poles. He hasn't been consistent throughout the season. If hes had a lot of DNFs or bad finishes he is not gonna have the points. You could never have a win and just finish all year in the top 5 or 10 and still be the points champion.

You do get points for poles.
The NASCAR point system is very different. One way to think about it is that it's like combining all the races into one race. Every race and every position counts. Finishing 25th is better than finishing 30th, something that is not true in any other racing series, where only the top 6 or 10 or something like that places count.
So Kasey may have better good finishes than most everyone else, but he also has worse bad finishes than the other top guys. It all is taken into account.

First off, the advantage of all of those wins disappeared at the beginning of the Chase for the Championship. At that time, they reset the points so that first thorugh tenth are separated by five points from position to position.
Second, he had a couple of bad runs during the first four races of the Chase, thus dug himself a hole as a result.
Finally, poles have nothing to do with points so those would not affect the points at all.

more points are awarded for laps led and, consticency. the races that He did'nt win usually resulted in pretty bad finishes.
when Terry Labonte won His championship, He did'nt win a single race but, He had a lot of top 5's and, top 10's. NASCAR is talking about awarding more points for wins, though.

for one thing, you don't get points for poles. and regardless of how many wins he has, the points system rewards consistency. if kahne follows a win with a 30th place finish, and say matt kenseth finishes 8th and 12th in those 2 races, kenseth would have more points.

he may have more wins,5,but all the other races he sucked at.he is the most inconsistant.
far from matt kenseth winning the cup with only one race win in the season
this leads to the reason that i dont like the race to the chase, this only lets inconsistancy prevail
