Most TV programmes are ruined because the dialogue can't be heard because of the loud background music volume!

The sound editors must all be in agreement that the mix is good. The Execs at the the networks etc., must also think it's OK, so I doubt it's going to change. It would take more petitions than you could probably get to change that.

I agree it makes hearing hard, but it is a little challenging. A tv program's audio (music, speech) is on a different track than the video, and have their own separate amplifiers. While many tv stations have equipment that tries to match the sound (db) levels of the various sources (tape, cd, dvd, vhs, svhs, lp, minidv, dvcpro etc.), it doesn't always work. One reason for this is that some program content is sent from stations across the continent, through sound compressors, expanders, noise reduces, satellites, and mixer boards, each which can have their settings set differently, resulting in a variety of volume levels.

There is a law against playing commercial volume higher than the program. But you can get around that by raising all tone levels to the maximum while not actually exceeding the volume limit. The result is that you get SLAMMED by very full audio when it comes time for commericials.
Did I explain that OK?

Have you ever noticed that you watch a program and when the commercial comes on it is volumes louder?..since we veg during commericals that is why it is louder...as far as music in the background they do that on purpose as well so we strain to watch the scene and not so much the dialogue...psycho babble I know but it's true.

I agree, but don't think we can do much about it. When it gets really bad, I put the subtitles on.
