If you have describe it in as much detail as you can. How it happened and then what happened once you died. Did you wake up or did something else happen?

That is the point when people usually wake up with a sense of shock. The life threat , the instinct of survival.... Whether it is a dream or not.... We call it a dream when we have a memory of it, else, during sleep it is just a flash of non-verbal thought, too small and subtle to get noticed, yet it is the only thing that wakes us up.

Well I have died in my dream and have had 3 different things happen to me. In one instance like with many people I wake up with the sense of shock or I'll have some trouble breathing. Then there was a time when I was shot in my dream and I died but I then became the person that shot me. Then there was a couple of dreams where I died and I still watched the dream like it was a movie.

I have been stabbed in my dream, but I did not die even in the dream itself. This stabbing dream I have had 3 times till date.

I think it is not possible to dream as though one had died. Even while asleep and dreaming, some part of awareness in us is awake and experiencing the dream. Therefore, it stands to logic that it is not possible to experience death in a dream.

I disagree with the earlier response that it is merely survival instinct that will wake us up from a dream. Also what I have mentioned as a part of our awareness that is awake during a dream is not any instinct, because this awareness makes us experience the dream event and instinct only reacts, instinct does not experience.

Good question - clever idea to find out if death or after death experience can be decoded through a dream.

While dreaming, I felt the most vivid likeness of death that I can ever possibly want in real life.

In a lucid dream, I dreamed that I was driving my minivan (the one which I wrecked in a prior accident). I dreamed that I was driving it under a night sky, on a wide, snowed-over parking lot with few cars. The lot was flat, but inclined because it was paved on the side of a hill.

I dreamed that I spun out, made wider and wider donuts, crashed into a boulder, and "saw" pitch black instantly. Nothing else.

I awoke with a start, and a rapid heartbeat.

I had another dream of this kind years later. I do not remember what I imagined as the causation of death that time. I only remember that I was spooked twice:

First by the black and weightless resolution of the dream.

Second, by the jarring heartbeat in my chest, which startled me because I was "dead" and could not expect to feel it.

Since these dreams are not a crossings over, they are irrelevant when I contemplate death.

The dreams are nonetheless exhilarating, and I want to have more of them in the future. They are a curiosity of mine.

I have died in a dream on more than one occasion. It almost always involves a natural disaster (earthquake, flood) and I am always on a very long bridge, like the Golden Gate, it collapses and the car i'm in plunges in to the water and I can't get out. At that point I usually wake up terrified.

I have died a few times in my dreams. The first time I had a piece of slate (think rock) shoved though my throat. I can remember the feeling of the blood pour down my throat and then blacking out knowing I was dying. Very creepy feeling. I woke up and I was ok, sweating alittle bit.
Your dreams are no different from day dreaming, except your awake when your doing one of them.

No. I always wake up before dying in a dream.

I don't think so, but I have very vivid nightmares. I have been shot and stabbed and could feel it in my dreams. It was so real.
