i hav the EXACT same problem. i hav a pretty decent comp too.
i got p4 2.4ghz,1gb memory, 12mb8 ACI (AIW) graphics, 280gb h/d, soudblaster, and everything, but it fresses from time to time fer not reason. did u custom make your comp.? cuz that mite be the prob. or ur motherboard/cpu mite be scratch or ur hard drive is messed up.

you do make sure you call your (isp) or this will happen
is your pc still slow & your internet you have done a full system scan
with your anit virus /anti spyware you even defragmenter your hard drive
done a scan disk but your pc is still slow and your internet is not as good
