If this had been a no-name private citizen we would be angry at him for flying recklessly below 1000 feet, violating restricted airspace, hurting innocent people, destruction of property, etc.

So why should there be a huge outpouring of grief just because this reckless thrillseeker had a Yankees uniform?

150 people die in traffic accidents every day in the US. Should we grieve for each and every one of them too? (And they probably weren't doing anything stupid like flying below 1000 feet in restricted airspace over a heavily populated area).

Again - why should we grieve for this guy but not the other 150 who died on the roads today?

i see what you mean, but i'm not liking the way your trying to prove your point because the way you say it makes you sound like you don't give a sh-t about what had just happened. you have a point, people die every day, regular people every single day and yet we don't mourn every single one. but you know what, the reason why there is a huge outpouring of grief is because people have seen and come to know him because of his pitching career. but that's life you know, as a society we try to remember those as much as we can. this just hits us more because we've seen him as a person and no disrespect to those many other people who have died everyday.

one other thing, "reckless thrillseeker"? you gotta be kidding me.

It doesn't matter who he was. A man has died in an accident. Even if he were "just an average citizen" he would have family and friends who will grieve. They would grieve and mourn him regardless of the fact that he was flying too low.
One thing that is a bit sad is that people will know that Cory died, but what about the other person that died? Was that person's name ever released?

You idiot, you're missing the point!
2 people died! One just happened to be more famous than the other but it doesn't make the other's life less important!
Lidle's wife lost her husband, his child lost his dad
and who knows how many loved ones the other person left behind.

Have a heart!

And BTW : He reported fuel trouble to the FAA shortly after take-off
so it's not like he did it on purpose, you schmuck!
It doesn't matter who's team he played for.
That's just an afterthought to most people.
If people want to grieve, it's none of your business.

This was a tragic accident. To say this less than 24 hours after his death is in poor taste.

Of course it got a lot of attention. He was a somewhat famous athlete AND a plane crashing into a building in downtown NYC is going to get a lot of attention in the post 9/11 world.

when are you people going to grow up-its sad whenever anyone dies. I never rejoice when I hear about someones death-its just that if all the car crashes, etc. were reported that's all we hear about
I'm not exactly crying the Lidle died, but i think its kind of sad even with me being a yankee hater!

You should feel grief because hes a human.

You, and almost everyone on yahoo answers, are cruel. You guys make fun of him for doing something he loved. He was a person, he deserves better than the way you people treat him.

The investigation into the cause of the accident has hardly begun. There's eyewitness report that indicates it may have been mechanical failure - not pilot. Let's at least wait untill the facts are known before we villify Lidle. Any way you slice it it's the regretable end of another American Dream.

That's a terrible thing to say. You need to sort out your morals.
Instead of being so heartless you should give respects to a former Yankee.

R.I.P Cory Lidle.
