while doing a stats project I found a pretty in depth study that found Bill Buckner to be 2nd most clutch hitter in baseball history. Eddie Murray was first. Any comments about these findings?

Yes I did. It would be a lot nicer if we could remember how good of a player he actually was. He was also hurt with a bad ankle in the world series and was subbed in every game the Sox were winning for a defensive replacement. And McNamara should share some of the blame. Clemens to Schiraldi instead of Stanley. Stanley had the off speed stuff instead of Schiraldi's heat. And of course the controversy of Clemens asking to come out. By the way does anyone even remember the Sox were up in game 7 3-0 until the bottom of sixth. There were a lot of things that blew the series but Buckner as a player. I have one word........GREAT.

Bill Buckner was a clutch player, able to get RBI without being a big home run hitter. But before his injuries he was a very good outfielder and speedy baserunner.

My biggest memory of Buckner was not the World Series groundball error but being the leftfielder that tried to climb the wall and catch Hank Aaron's 715th home run while playing left field for the LA Dodgers.

Eddie Murray was always awesome with things on the line. I can recall Buckner getting lots of clutch hits for the Cubs back in the day. His overall stats are almost borderline for thinking of Hall of Fame talk, but his one fielding "oops" will haunt him forever.
That's too bad....

I would agree with them. It is a shame that he get the blame for the game six loss. What many people do not realize is that by the time the ball got by him the Mets had already tied the Red Sox do to other ball player mistakes. Give it up to Billy though he found a way to make lemonade out of lemons. He is selling autographed picture of the play.
